Act I
Scene 1. In the schoolyard, Qeys and Leyli are in love. Qeys cannot hide his feelings. Leyli’s classmates warn her that such public love will bring trouble and lead her away from him. Qeys’s parents promise to arrange their marriage.
Scene 2. Their love becomes the subject of gossip. Leyli’s mother forbids her from going to school. Majnun’s father’s marriage proposal is rejected. In despair, Leyli confides in the candle. Another suitor, Ibn Salam, arrives and receives her family’s consent.
Scene 3. Majnun retreats to the desert, living with visions of Leyli. The warrior Nofal promises to win Leyli for him by force, but her father reveals she is already married to Ibn Salam, and the fight is stopped.
Act II
Scene 4. Majnun’s father takes him to the Kaaba, hoping prayers will help him forget Leyli. Instead, Majnun prays never to be freed from his love. His father dies of grief. Leyli moves to Ibn Salam’s home. Majnun wanders nearby but is driven away.
Scene 5. Leyli, weakened by sorrow, refuses to give her heart to anyone but Majnun. His vision appears, accusing her of betrayal. Leyli dies in her mother’s arms.
Scene 6. Upon hearing of her death, Majnun rushes to her grave, embraces it, and dies, uniting with his beloved in death.
